Abstract

Three- hundred and ninety clinical samples from burns, wounds, vagina, septicemia, ear, stool and urine were collected from the in patients of Al-Diwaniya ganeral Teaching Hospital and Al-Diwaniya Gynecology and pediatrics teching Hospital from October 2010 to March 2011.
Twelve (3.76%) clinical bacterial isolates were diagnosedbelonging to Acinetobacter baumanii depending on the cultural and microscopic features, the biochemical tests and confirmative (Vitek-2) system .
The susceptibility of this bacteria against 16 antibiotics was tested. The bacteria showed a high resistance to 15 ntibiotics; while it was sensitive only to Ciprofloxacin was 91.66%.
All isolates of Acinetobacter baumanii were selected to study the plasmid profile based on their resistance to antibiotics profile . The results revealed that 8 isolates contained plasmid bands. These isolates showed various levels of resistance to antibiotics. However, 4isolates did not contain any plasmid bands and they showed multi- resistance to antibiotics inspite of there resistance.
