Preliminary Phytochemical and Screening of Biocomponents by GC-MS Technique in Myrtuscommunis L. Plant Flowers
Abstract
Phytochemical components of Myrtuscommunis L. flowers have been evaluated using GC-MS. The chemical compositions of M.communis L. flowers were investigated using Shimadzu Gas Chromatography– Mass Spectrometry, while the mass spectra of the compounds found in the extract was matched by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) library. The qualitative analysis of ethanolic extract of M.communis L. flowers showed that alkaloid, tannin, phenol, flavonoids, terpenoids, sapanoin, anthraquinones, protein and quinones present in ethanolic extract. GC-MS analysis of ethanolic extract of M.communis L. flowers revealed the existence of acetic acid, camphor, Bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane, 2-methoxy- 1,7,7-trimethyl-, 2-Butenoic acid, 2-methyl-, (Z)-, 1-Hexadecanol, 3,7,11,15-Tetramethyl-2-hexadecen-1-ol, 1,3-Cyclopentadiene, 5,5-dimethyl-2-ethyl-, Diazoacetic acid, 2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexyl ester, 3,6- Octadien-1-ol, 3,7-dimethyl-, (Z)-, 3-Oxabicyclo[4.1.0]heptan-2-one, 4,4,7,7-tetramethyl-, 12- Oxabicyclo[9.1.0]dodeca-3,7-diene, 1,5,5,8-tetramethyl-, 3-Buten-2-one, 4-(2-hydroxy-2,6,6- trimethylcyclohexyl)- and thujone. The quantitative determination of an ethanolic extract of M. communisL flowers contains high concentrations of phenol (7.84 ± 0.69 mg/gm), flavonoids (5.23 ± 0.56 mg/gm), tannin(2.04 ± 0.43 mg/gm), and saponins (1.83 ± 0.49 mg/gm). The results of this study offer a platform of using M.communis L. an herbal alternative for various diseases.
