Publication ethics and the statement of publishing malpractices are mainly based on the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Newspaper Editors (Publication Ethics Committee, 2011).
Editors’ responsibilities
publishing decisions
The editor is responsible for selecting the papers to be published in the journal. The editor will evaluate manuscripts without regard to the authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy. The decision will depend on the importance of the paper, originality and clarity, and the validity of the study and its relevance to the scope of the journal. Current legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism must also be taken into account.
Secret
The editor and any editorial team must not disclose any information about the submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, prospective reviewers, other editorial advisors, and the publisher, as applicable.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest
Unpublished material disclosed in a submitted paper will not be used by the editor or members of the editorial staff for their own research purposes without the express written consent of the author.
Responsibilities of reviewers
Contribute to editorial decisions
The peer review process assists the editor and editorial staff in making editorial decisions and may also serve the author in improving the paper.
the speed
Any selected referee who feels ineligible to review research reported in a manuscript or knows that immediate review will be impossible must notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Secret
Any manuscripts received for review should be treated as confidential documents. It must not be disclosed or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
Objective criteria
Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees must express their opinions clearly with supporting arguments.
Acknowledgment of sources
Reviewers should identify cases in which relevant published work referred to in the paper has not been cited in the references section. They should indicate whether observations or arguments drawn from other publications are accompanied by the source in question. The reviewers shall notify the editor of any material similarity or overlap between the manuscript in question and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest
Information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal benefit. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the research.
Duties of the authors:
Authors of original research reports should provide an accurate description of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. The basic data must be accurately represented in the paper. The paper should contain enough detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Deceptive or intentionally inaccurate statements constitute unethical and unacceptable behaviour.
Data access and retention
Authors may be asked to submit the raw data for their study with the paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to make the data available to the public if at all possible. In any case, authors must ensure that such data are accessible to other competent professionals for at least ten years after publication (preferably via an institutional, topic-based data warehouse or other data center), provided that the confidentiality of the contributors is protected and Legal rights regarding proprietary data do not preclude its release.
Originality, plagiarism, and acknowledgment of sources
The authors will only submit fully original works, and will cite or appropriately quote the work and/or words of others. Publications that were influential in determining the nature of the reported work should also be cited.
Multiple, redundant or concurrent posts
In general, papers describing essentially the same research should not be published in more than one journal. Submitting the same paper to more than one journal is considered unethical and unacceptable publishing behavior.
Manuscripts that have been published as copyrighted material elsewhere cannot be submitted. In addition, manuscripts under review by the journal must not be resubmitted to copyrighted publications. However, by submitting a manuscript, the author(s) retain the rights to the published material. If published, they permit use of their work under the CC-BY license [http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/], which allows others to copy, distribute, and transmit the work as well as adapt the work and make commercial use of it.
Authoring the paper
Authoring should be restricted to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, implementation, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors.
The corresponding author ensures that all contributing co-authors are included and that no non-contributing persons are included in the author list. The corresponding author will also verify that all co-authors have approved the final version of the paper and agreed to submit it for publication.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest
All authors must include a statement disclosing any financial or other thematic conflict of interest that could be construed as affecting the outcome or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.
Material errors in the published works
When the author discovers a major error or inaccuracy in his/her published work, it is the duty of the author to inform the journal editor or publisher immediately and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.
